Google vs Apple for advertising space
There’s a new rumor circulating the Web that Apple is gearing up for battle with Google in the mobile advertising space. Google and Apple both recently acquired companies that specialize in mobile advertising. According to reports Apple may be the first strike against Google.
Recently, Google has rejected accusations of sharing advertising revenue with mobile applications. A few months ago, Google made an offer to buy AdMob, a publishing company 750 million dollars. AdMob is one of the world’s largest platform for mobile advertising and was once coveted by Apple.
However, Google managed to get their claws into the company before Apple was able to snatch it up. However, the agreement is being reviewed by the Federal Trade Commission to ensure there will be no violations of anti-competitive.
Meanwhile, Apple was able to acquire another major advertising company, Quattro for $275 million. According to MediaPost, Apple is rumored to be preparing its next big platform called iAd. This new platform will serve as Apple’s de facto advertising platform for mobile apps. This new platform is rumored to be officially announced April 7.
According to MediaPost, Steve Jobs, describes iAd as Apple’s “next big thing” and “revolutionary.” If true, it would seem a bit odd that Apple would introduce the iAd shortly after the iPad. However, these platforms would be targeted to different audiences.
Currently, the field of mobile advertising industry is a booming market, with very little competition. It is logical that Google and Apple will fight for that coveted space. Google is the king of search and advertising arena Apple has been certified to make mobile applications in the spotlight. The competition between the two companies can bring to the back of the FTC on Google. It will be interesting to see how things go in this space between the two companies.
