Mophie to provide a iPnone credit card reader

When the iPhone was first released a few years ago, the whole world was abuzz with anticipation on how Apple would be able to an above-average cellphone experience to the masses,  and I must confess we were not disappointed.Heck, expectations were so high that folks even queued up outside the store for a couple of days before its release, willing to fork out a whopping $599 outright for the handset (and that is even before one takes into consideration the monthly fees). Well, the iPhone has come a long way since its release with incremental upgrades and updates introduced along the way, and it seems as that this smartphone is able to do just about anything (except for pollution from around the world). Today, we bring you news of another new function introduced to the iPhone thanks to Mophie – with their iPhone credit card reader.

Mophie, the popular iPhone and iPod accessory and battery add-on maker, will use CES 2010 as the platform to introduce their iPhone credit card reader and third-party app, which marks the first attempt by the manufacturer of accessories to enter the lucrative market for mobile payment systems. The accessory has been unimaginatively dubbed as the “Credit Card Reader”, where each purchase will be accompanied by a complimentary third party processing application which enables one to turn the iPhone into a functional device that accepts credit payments simply by passing one’s credit card through a special casing attached that is connected to their handset.

There are still many details on this new mobile payment system Mophie, which have not yet been filed, and industry analysts are pretty sure that the device’s success will depend largely on the design and bulk of the iPhone add-on alongsde a price point that is hoped to be customer friendly. Make no mistake, this device isn’t about to start a monopoly in such a segment since it will go up head-to-head against Square. The Mophie Credit Card Reader will be packaged as an iPhone-only shell case which is similar to their Juice Pack Air battery pack for iPhone.

Google, the competitor to Apple’s iPhone

GOOGLE, the internet search engine giant, will this week go into battle against Apple, the

technology group, when it launches a smart-phone to much fanfare.

It is expected to unveil the Google-branded device, Nexus One, on Tuesday at a conference at its

headquarters in Mountain View, California.

The phone will be a direct competitor to Apple’s iPhone,  which offers a navigation system and

video games .Like the iPhone, the Google device will have a touch screen and users will be able to

search the web by using voice commands.

The launch promises to lead to a battle of the marketing of explosives between the two groups.

Nexus One will create huge excitement in the consumer technology world, coming out hours before

the start of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where companies compete to show off their

latest state-of-the-art gadgets.

Google is desperate to make sure that it has an influence over the development of the fast-growing

market for mobile-phone internet access.

In October, Eric Schmidt,Google CEO, told analysts that the number of mobile internet searches

increased 30% in the third quarter over the previous three months.

As well as competition for the iPhone, the Google phone will pose a challenge to a new wave of

devices built on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 7.

Such is the interest in the device that internet blogs are inundated with information about flight

prices Nexus One and photos began circulating on the network.
