IPhone impact to Korean market against

Apple iPhone took nearly a year to be released in Korea. During a year of period local telecommunication environment has been changed even from government policies. When it launched in Korea, selected local carrier KT’s Chief Strategy officer mention “We are hoping that this iPhone will be a trigger point for the smartphone market in Korea.” Korea smartphone market is just 0.66 million units (3% of total mobile market) in 2009 and iPhone sold about 0.2 million units after launch. (December) You can imagine iPhone’s impact from here, it’s right?

KT gets exited with current situation since most of their iPhone customers from No.1 carrier SKT. With this result, both companies announced they will import and release more smartphones in 2010 to ensure and maintain expand their M/S in Korea. This means those Google Android smartphones will be hit in Korea any time. SKT planning to released about 15 smart phones and 13 models will be based on Android platform, this mean WindowMob is just 2 among 15. Motorola takes a first position with Motoroi. However, its impact isn’t really powerful as I expected. In the market, Many customers are more interesting about the Google Nexus One rather than any Android phone available. This may related to Apple iPhone. People assume, Google have best strange about the Android platform since it’s developed by Google. Is identical to that of other Android phones, but it must be an impressive win-win solution and others can offer.
After iPhone released, local internet environment also faced with difficult challenges. They like to offer an effective service for iPhone but Active-X need to be eliminated. Or other gateway or pages must be developed to adopt iPhone Safari users. Now, many sites begin to offer services can be used under iPhone Safari browser also portals too. This case shows that if Apple Tablet released in Korea, it really have possibility to expose new Personal Computer OS stream which dedicated and closed to MS for years in Korea. This mean Apple Tablet can open up Smartbook market in Korea too which offers longer battery with low price based on Linux OS. Each OS got a potential in world with simple Net access and many affordable features but, only Korean Net access have problems with. But, it is getting changed by Apple iPhone and Google Android.

In addition, E-book market is not really popular in Korea. This market is just got an attentions from customers but, once those tablet Personal Computer released soon after then Apple tablet released, possibility to disappear even its emerged as one of product category.

Let’s see how those 2 key products will impact to Korean market against iPhone’s impact. It is really exciting to watch and wait.

Sites reported a miracle of Haiti in which an U.S. filmmaker trapped in the rubble of the earthquake in Haiti owes his salvation to his iPhone.

He has clever known to used his phone as a digital Swiss army knife to survive 65 hours until help arrived.

Dan Woolley trapped under a pile of rubble in the earthquake, injuring his leg and head. An app of first aid explained him how to stop the bleeding from his leg and how to make a bandage for his head and was warned to avoid falling asleep after a head trauma. (According to MSNBC.com.)

He has programmed the alarm of his iPhone with a trip every 20 minutes as a precaution.

Obviously this has been a success and he was released 65 hours later. However, nobody knows exactly how to apply first aid had been consulted, which is fairly convenient if you have to download all the apps first aid on the day you have a problem.
