Logitech – A Mousy App

Here is a really useful application for the App Store from Apple: a program that turns an iPhone / iPod Touch into a wireless device trackpad and trackpad.

The free application, available here via iTunes, is called Touch Mouse, and was developed by Logitech. It is compatible with the multiple functions of common sense to most such devices: click left and right, single and two finger scrolling, and a keyboard that is configured in portrait or landscape modes and allows access to the Control, Alt and Control keys.

There’s a simple warning, however. To make the touch mouse around the house (they speak both Mac and PC, by the way), you must also download a separate server (also free) software that enables the “mouse” to communicate with d ‘ other devices in a Wi-fi. The software is a little over 2 megabytes in size and is available for Windows Vista, 7, and XP and Mac OS on this site.

Everything worked without drama on my Mac running Snow Leopard and an iPhone 3GS, but of course typing can be a headache on the small screen. I have used mice more instinctive, including some from Logitech, it is not a substitute for one if you do intensive work on the computer. It is worth a try, though, and the price is right.
