Opera Mini on iPhone, MWC 2010

During MWC 2010, we got a chance to play with the Opera Mini Application for the iPhone. Here’s our take on the application after using it for a short duration.

The first thing I noticed about the application is that the user interface is virtually the same as Opera Mini on other touchscreen phones. It’s not like speed dial lets you dial 9 favorites websites. There’s also Bookmark syncing and Password management in place.

What is surprising is the speed at which pages loaded extremely slow in the Wi-Fi. Most websites loaded 4-5 times faster on Opera Mini when compared to Safari. You can also choose to turn-off images to improve speed. This application uses the well known Opera compression technology to remotely download webpages before sending the information to the phone. This means you will save lots of money for fees paid without a data plan for unlimited navigation. This could also bring good news to Operators in markets suffering from iPhone browsing explosion.

If you’ve used Opera Mini in any other devices, Opera Mini for iPhone will look pretty much the same as there are no specific changes iPhone user interface. There is no pinch zooming but only double tap like in other versions of Opera Mini. You can switch between multiple tabs using the tab preview at the bottom of the screen. One cool thing about the app is that it saves the exact state of the browsing session even after quitting the application. This will be pretty useful if you forget to bookmark something .

Opera told us that Opera Mini is not a full browser for the iPhone. Javascript not load your web pages. According to them, Opera Mini is designed to provide a browsing experience faster and, if you need a full browsing experience on the iPhone Safari.Opera intended to recommend that users deserve a choice when it comes to navigating on the iPhone.

While claims that Opera Mini Opera is not intended as a replacement for Safari, Apple has rejected several requests from the iPhone App Store to interfere with the basic functionality. But, like Opera Mini can be seen more as a service rather than a full browser, have the strength. Opera aims to present the request to Apple once it is ready. He is currently in beta and not available for download on the Web.

We hope only supports Opera Mini for the iPhone !

Opera did not let anyone take photographs or videos of the application on the iPhone.

Recently, Capcom announced that Street Fighter 4 will be available in March for the iPod Touch and iPhone.

The game will include a list that includes characters from recent releases as well as classic characters.

“It’s Street Fighter 4 in all its glory… uncompromised and impressive,” Takeshi Tezuka said, Capcom general manager of mobile content development. “We are particularly proud of the multiplayer feature as it remains true to the series arcade roots by allowing players to go head to head via Bluetooth in spectacular fashion.”

A customizable “visual pad” will be incorporated into the game. The “visual pad” will be able to be placed anywhere on the screen, with options for transparency.

Has also announced for the game solo is a dojo “mode”, probably similar to the single player mode of training available in the console and the Personal Computer version of Street Fighter 4.

The only multiplayer mode announced has been via Bluetooth. No pricing information is currently available.

CBS will begin selling some television shows through Apple’s iTunes service for 99 cents per episode, confirming a report from FT that some networks have agreed to halve prices.
