Rumor: mobile advertising platform named “iAd”launch by Apple
According to sources who spoke to Media Post, Apple will have a busy first week in April. While the iPad officially releases on April 3rd, apparently, a presentation will be made to businesses advertising on Madison Avenue, April 7 for a new project tentatively titled“iAd”.
Apparently, it’s Apple’s plan for a share of advertising revenue that is generated by all applications on the iPhone OS that are supported by ads. Although the company has tried to buy AdMob to $ 600 million, the transaction has failed and was eventually acquired by Google for $ 750 million for what some say was spite. Apple finally ended up purchasing Quattro Wireless in Jan. for around $300 million, and apparently this new iAd is built off of that.
Although no specific details of the platform are available now, is suspected to be location aware and more.
This move make a lot of sense for Apple as hundreds of millions of dollars in advertising is being made on ad spots that go through its App Store and then are displayed on devices it made. This will be a new source of revenue for the company, and one that is somewhat surprising that they didn’t attempt sooner.
We do not know if this will be a public statement by the average Apple ad, but details are uncertain in the short term leak once the information is confirmed Apple communicates it with the ad agencies.
