iPhone – Pac-Man

pac-man-iphone

This’s a good news for all ardent Pac-Man fans who also happen to own an iPhone. The well-loved Pac-Man title is now set to allure iPhone users through the iTunes Store.

This version 2.0.0 of the game is integrated with the online community with support from Namco UniteSDK. Allows users to create custom profiles, track accomplishments, add friends and chat with them. Users can even publish and compare their scores on the world rankings.

Players can evade annoying ghosts by tilting or rotating the phone in the Accelerometer Mode. To chew the dots players can move fingers in Swipe Mode and fruits can be gulped down for bonus points. The design includes the original game, Easy and Normal modes and three new control functions.

Users can use the onscreen Directional Pad to navigate through the mazes in D-pad Mode. All the dots must be eaten to proceed to the next level. An extra life can be gained after 10,000 points have been won. Players must aim at reaching high levels and acquiring maximum scores.

The blinking Power Pellets can be used to weaken the power of ghosts temporarily and devour them before they regain their powers. Players have to avoid Blinky, the chief villain and his companion ghosts Pinky, Inky and Clyde to stay in the game.

The game is available in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish and is about 3.6 MB in size. Works with iPhone OS 3.1 or later.

Pac-Man is compatible with the phone, iPod touch and IPAD. It is available on iTunes for $ 4.99.

Adds 3G VoIP calls, iPhone Skype app

Skype has finally added 3G calls to your application for the iPhone, but the only service will be free for iPhone users for a short period, with plans to charge users from August.

Skype 2.0 is now available to download or update via the iTunes App Store. Now you can make Skype calls anywhere, wherever you are. (Well, provided you have a 3G signal, of course!)

But Skype needs to make some money, just like the rest of us, so the free 3G calls will only be trialled through till August.

TechRadar has contacted Skype in the UK to learn more about plans to launch this new service in August and also to determine exactly how many “small monthly fee” will be for Skype to Skype from August.

Still. For now, it’s free. So fill your boots! What’s new in the latest version? Is:

- Call through its 3G connection. Skype calls to Skype on 3G for free at least until the end of August 2010, after which there will be a small monthly fee (operator data charges still apply).

- Near CD quality sound for Skype to Skype with wideband audio (codec silk) of the iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2nd generation.

- Improving the Quality Indicator.

- Improves the startup time.

- Fast access to the dial pad from iPhone home screen.

Could face anti-trust issues – Apple iTunes

Apple’s iTunes juggernaut may face some problems in the antitrust laws of the United States because the Department of Justice a strict control over the digital music market.

Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) is now the biggest music store in the world, surpassing even Wal-Mart, but the government is in the initial phase to see if the company used its market position unfairly. For example, Apple said that the labels would not receive the promotion if you also use iTunes strong “rival Amazon Deal of the Day” promotion of sales of albums and songs for really cheap price.

No word on when or if Apple drop the hammer, but the company may be experiencing almost too successful. Ten years ago, Apple has not been in a great location, even with Steve Jobs returns. Then took the iPod, iTunes and finally the iPhone, and all these helped to stimulate a change in weathering.

The media software has become the backbone of Apple’s products and I believe it is a major advantage for Apple in the mobile space that is not often spoken about. The App Store probably wouldn’t have been such a success if Apple users weren’t conditioned to quickly and easily purchase programs with a few clicks. While rival Google (NSDQ: GOOG) is set to do some amazing things with the Android Market, it’s tough to build from scratch and we know that Google’s market is still not that good in terms of searching and for discovering new apps.

Android may actually help Apple to escape some government oversight, as Amazon has seen its music store thanks to this little robot, green. While iTunes has always been about 70% of the market, Amazon’s MP3 store has tripled its market share (from 4% to 12%) over the last two years and continues to grow with Android, could be a legitimate counterweight to Apple iTunes.
