Bans fraudulent developer from iTunes – Apple
Apple has confirmed that iTunes accounts undertakes to make fraudulent purchases and has banned the promoter in the center of the scam.
Thuat Nguyen managed to briefly push 42 of his releases into the top 50 book apps in the US iTunes Store last week, triggering suspicions of foul play. After earlier suspending the Vietnamese developer’s account, Apple has brought the ban-hammer down on Nguyen for violations of its Developer Program License Agreement.
In a statement, Apple said the 400 accounts have been compromised to make fraudulent purchases. “If your credit card or password is stolen and used iTunes on iTunes, we recommend you contact your financial institution and ask for the cancellation of the card and issue a flow of unauthorized transactions,” Apple said.
Security companies believe the scam is the hallmark of a phishing attack, where victims are tricked into handing over the powers logon.
Apple, meanwhile, stresses the importance of individual accounts, instead of the iTunes Store itself, which have been affected by the breach. However, Apple has committed to review the security of its servers and improve controls.
